It is the shaped neck at the tube end that mates with the floor nozzle, holding it square and passing airflow into the tube. A cracked or worn fitting neck lets the nozzle wobble or pull loose and leaks air at the connection, which costs suction at the floor. Fitting the correct neck restores a tight nozzle fit and a
