Antique French Oil Painting on Board, Nature Still Life w 2 Birds, Artist Signed vermeil Marketed via Regent Street sellerI love these old "Fruits of the Hunt" themed paintings on board, 19th century French works that were more a prayer of thanks for the evening meal than they were about hunting, really. They're almost trompe l'oeil, with birds or perhaps rabbits, etc., hanging against a wall, fresh for the evening's kitchen preparation. This one has an autumn feel to the added leaves and twigs. An artist's signature is there but we have no way to make it out or
